Notes from Delores
As we get ready for a week of gratitude, The Center has much across its 42-year history to be grateful for!
#Gratitude for a community ever-striving toward fairness and equality, and willing to care so deeply about all of its members. #Gratitude for the endless generosity and spirit of more than 1,100 current volunteers and for all those volunteers who have given so much across 42 years. #Gratitude for all of the stakeholders and donors who have been so generously willing to invest in building our community and lifting up its members. #Gratitude for a board whose tradition of leadership is a tradition of service and the fierce pursuit of right action. Never-ending respect and gratitude for an amazingly talented, compassionate staff – and a tradition passed on by the many who have served and fiercely given their all. #Gratitude for all of our partners in the justice struggle and their willingness to educate and be educated. And #Gratitude for a community attempting to find family and forgiveness for the necessary mistakes as we all journey together toward a more compassionate justice and freedom for all.
The Center will be closed for Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 29. Regular hours resume at 9am on Monday, Nov. 30.
In the Know with Ian
For many years my mother and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving tradition that I continue today. The day before was always our day to put our creative minds together and create an over-the-top wreath for the Annual Wreath Auction benefitting the Queen Eddie Conlon Youth Fund. It’s something we started at the inception of the auction 12 years ago. This week I encourage you to start your own tradition and make a fabulous wreath! The auction is quickly approaching – on Monday, Dec. 7. Once again Martinis Above Fourth Table + Stage will be hosting this fantastic event, starting promptly at 7:30pm. Doors open at 6pm with a $10 donation suggested at the door. Wreaths for auction can be dropped off atThe Center through Dec. 5. For more information, visit http://events.thecentersd.org/wreathauction. Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
