Sexuality and Trauma in Modern El Salvador – An Autoethnography by Carlo Zepeda
Stonewall National Museum – Wilton Manors Gallery
2157 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL 33305
El Salvador is a threatening and violent place for those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender – they are often innocent victims of prejudice, discrimination, abuse and violence and are subjected daily to forms of harassment, degradation, and cruelty.

With his masters thesis completed at the University of Miami, author Carlo Zepeda presents three essays in this auto ethnography. The essays are testimonies from gay men in a developing country, whose lives were disrupted by war, affected by street violence, crippled by sexual violence, impaired by mental health conditions, intensely devastated by family hostility and discriminated by a patriarchal society that is machista and homophobic.

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments served with thanks to Barefoot Wine & Bubbly.

LifeSavers – AIDS Posters from the Wolfsonian
on exhibit until January 3
Exhibition Sponsor Darcy J Beeman, AAMS®, CFP®, ADPA® Financial Advisor | Edward Jones
Gleaned from The Wolfsonian-FIU exhibition, Life Savers presents posters of special interest to the gay community. The United States government was slow to respond to the epidemic, both with funds and with concern for the health  of homosexuals. In general, American posters about HIV/AIDS awareness and protective behavior depict relatively non-controversial images. Denmark, Brazil and Australia produced more explicitly graphic posters that portray the dangers of unprotected sex. After all, lives were at risk. Curated by Charles L. Ross.
