Thousands of pro-gay Russians have united to fight a bill that will ban people from coming out as gay.
The State Duma will decide on a bill that calls for people who say ‘I’m gay’ out loud or are affectionate with a same-sex partner in public to be fined 5,000 rubles ($80, €60) and to be jailed for 15 days.
The proposed bill is only targeting gay men as women, according to bill’s authors Ivan Nikitchuk and Nikolai Arefyev, are more ‘reasonable’ and can ‘manage their emotions’.
This bill is unconstitutional and discriminatory in form. It is anti-human,’ a petition on Change.org reads, which already has over 10,000 signatures.
